CISC, not an ordinary club

If you are sad, share it and you will be less sad. If you are happy, share it and you will be happier.
It is the power of sharing that inspired a group of cancer survivors to set up a club called the Cancer Information and Support Center (CISC) on April 4, 2003.
They share not only their feelings, but also information, and support each other.
Walking in the same shoes strengthens their solidarity and the interaction makes them a big family.
The CISC is an independent nonprofit organization, which is not affiliated to any pharmaceutical company or political party.
It reaches out to other cancer survivors, giving them emotional support and promoting a positive attitude to allow them to live their life to the fullest.
Anyone who needs counseling can call the club and talk to a volunteer who will patiently listen and give suggestions or advice as needed. Direct, face-to-face contact is also available.
For cancer patients who need support regarding their treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, the CISC will lend a hand.
The club members regularly visit cancer patients, especially at Dharmais Cancer Hospital in West Jakarta and Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta, to lend support and share their experiences with the patients and their families.
The CISC provides training to improve public awareness about cancer, highlighting the importance of early detection of cancer and the dangers of an unhealthy lifestyle and diet.
On the second and fourth Fridays of every month, they meet in support groups, involving paramedics, therapists, herbalists and doctors who will happily share information and knowledge about cancer.
For information about the topic, time and venue, please contact the CISC secretariat at +62 815 8749700 or +62 813 88802009.
All activities are free of charge.
If you are a cancer survivor or someone who cares about cancer survivors, you are welcome to join the club.
You may choose to engage in the support group, consultancy, administration, research and evaluation, or other activities, as well as donate to the cause.
The cancer club now has branches in Manado, Balikpapan, Semarang and Bandung.
